- OK, I need to process some graphics for school...
- I would love to do all of this on an Amiga, but unfortunately, as a lowly
- college student I can't afford SCALA, Can't find Deluxe Video III, or
- Showmaker, and the school's Amigas would be to old to run them, anyway
- (and in some cases, my machine may be too new). :P
-
- So I'm stuck with the PowerMacs at school, and I have to (batch) process
- a bunch of IFF, GIF & JPEG files through ImageFX 2.1a into a scaled PICT
- facsimile for inclusion in a Director 4.0.3 Interactive Movie.
-
- But I forgot... Amiga uses rectangular pixels like the TV, and Mac & IBM
- use square pixels. So what % verticle do I scale the original File in
- order to keep it proportionately accurate?
-
- Also, when transfering files, neither the school or myself have any kind
- of removable media (Zip drives seem to be all sold out, too). I did bring
- in my external HD, planning to format that on a Mac and using
- ShapeShifter at home to tranfer files to and fro... but my 240MB SCSI 2 FAST
- Seagate ST3283N wasn't recognized by the Quadra (68040) with MacOS 7.1,
- and was described by the PowerMac (601) with 7.5.1 as an Unsupportted Drive.
- Anyone know why?
-
- OK, so since the graphics lab isn't wired to the Net, I can't even use my
- modem to transfer archived files, which totally limits me to Floppies (Is
- this Sucky or what?). But now I can't even use DirWorks to transfer the
- files over to PC disks, because it won't use the CrossDOS Device.
-
- I understand that DW 2.x & DOpus will, but don't have it, and won't be
- able to afford it until after the project is well over with. I was
- wondering if someone could recomend a good configurable file management
- utility that will access the crossdos.device (and better if it will use
- the crossMac.device, if available. The workbench is great, but when
- accessing files spread across multiple volumes/partitions/directories/
- it gets to become a rather cumbersome experience trying to wade through
- all of that clutter.
-
- What ticks me off is that, after seeing some real slick Director 4 Movies,
- I still haven't seen anything as good as what the Amiga is capable of
- now. If I had the software for the Amiga! I still won't manage to
- wind-up with a production on the Mac that is as good as what is available
- with the Amiga... and I'm using a $9,000.00 PowerMac with Director which
- itself costs $1,500.00, not to mention PhotoShop or Illustrator's cost.
-
- On top of that... I'll NEVER be able to save what I did because of the
- lack of removable media.
